Acadia in the Spring
Spring in Acadia NP
Acadia in the spring is yet another season to be enjoyed. Get the scoop on what spring in Acadia is all about...
Eventually, the snow stops falling and warmer weather begins to bless coastal Maine. By mid-April, the Park Loop Road is probably open again and the slopes are greening. Spring has arrived in Acadia NP once again.
Spring temperatures range between 30 and 70 degrees and it is often foggy. A real down side in late spring is that black flies are common in May and June.
However, there are many things that are good about Acadia in the spring, especially the fact that the park is so empty at this time of year! If you want solitude and the opportunity to move through the park without encountering tons of other visitors, Acadia in spring is perfect for you.
Spring Activities in Acadia
In large part, you can do all the things in the spring that you can do in the summer; it will just be messier. If you go hiking, expect trails to be wet, with lingering patches of ice and snow.
Animal activity should be high, which is a real bonus. In all our years in Acadia, even on the remotest of trails, we've hardly seen more than a squirrel or chipmunk... it's just too busy in the summer; the animals hide then. But when it's spring in Acadia, you may encounter foxes, deer, otters, and beavers.
The entrance fee to Acadia NP is half price this time of year too, so that's another bonus.
In summary, Acadia in the spring is a wonderful thing. You'll be happy you came!
