Bar Harbor Camping

Info on Acadia Campgrounds - The Best Maine Camping

Save money with Bar Harbor camping resorts. When you stay in Acadia campgrounds (or nearby Bar Harbor campgrounds), it is Maine camping at its very finest.

bar harbor camping is the best lodging in Bar Harbor!

If camping is what you like to do, then there is sure to be a Bar Harbor area campground that is the perfect fit for you and your family. Each campground on Mount Desert Island has something unique about it.

If you're looking for a very primitive campsite, try one of the Acadia National Park campgrounds located within the park. But if you're looking for a few (or a lot!) more amenities, then there are campgrounds near Acadia that will suit you too.

Why Camp?

Personally, we've always loved camping. Kathi was raised on it... and so were Sarah and Jenn, as a result. But not everyone camped as a child, and so you might be wondering if camping would be the right move for you and your family.

Here are just a few of the benefits, as we see it, to camping:

  • It's a great way to save money on lodging and meals (if you cook at your campsite)
  • You're closer to nature, falling asleep and waking up to the sound of bugs buzzing, squirrels chattering, and birds chirping
  • You'll make memories while sitting around the campfire at night, snacking on s'mores

If these benefits sound enticing to you, then camping might just be for you! Camping tends to be the least costly type of lodging, because you are essentially paying for the site but providing your own shelter.

Even if you don't like the idea of being exposed in a tent, you can still call yourself a camper. There's always tent campers, RVs and monster-size buses! Oh, and many Acadia campgrounds these days offer rustic log cabins as well.

acadia campgroundsA great thing about Bar Harbor camping is making your own meals. Be sure to plan ahead, though, so that you don't have to run to a grocery store each night to buy the ingredients for dinner. Also, remember to keep it simple... because after all, you are camping and don't want to have to prepare a fancy three-course meal.

If you're not squeamish about bugs and wild animals, you'll definitely be a good camper. However, if the sight of a daddy-long leg spider crawling up the side of your tent scares you, maybe you'd be better off at a Bar Harbor hotel or inn. smile

Everyone knows that one of the best parts of Bar Harbor camping is the campfires. They smell great, keep you warm in the chilly Maine evenings and are great for roasting hot dogs and marshmallows over. It's even fun to throw a marshmallow or two right into the fire and watch it rapidly expand as it burns!
