Bar Harbor Family Fun

Pirates Cove Miniature Golf

For some Bar Harbor family fun, try a round (or two or three) of miniature golf at Pirate's Cove. It's grand fun, me hearties...

one of our favorite bar harbor activities

Jenn Miniature Golfing
That's me, Jenn, getting ready to take on
the Pirate's Cove challenge!
Cross all your fingers on your left hand. Close your eyes. Stand on one foot. Whistle the star-spangled banner. Now if you make a hole-in-one you win a free game!

Does this sound like your kind of Bar Harbor family fun? If you're already whistling, crossing, closing and balancing, you're well on your way! Pirates Cove Miniature Golf, located on Route 3 near Hulls Cove, is by far, the best mini golf I've ever played. It's probably the best mini golf you'll ever play too!

Are you up for the challenge?

... Blackbeard's Challenge, that is!

If so, you'll find it at 368 State Highway 3, Bar Harbor ME 04609 (actually Hulls Cove just past and across from the Bar Harbor Campground). Call them at 207-288-2133 or logon at www.piratescove.net.

Pirates Cove offers two wonderful 18-hole golf courses. There's the original and then there's Blackbeard's Challenge. Even if you are a highly skilled and recognized mini golf champion, play the original. It is still very challenging and features more numerous and different obstacles than the other one.

Both courses offer holes with various obstacles including sand traps, buoys, chains and water. WARNING: This is no amateur course. If you see water, there is an opening and your ball will find it.

To save time for you and the people waiting behind you, station a friend with quick reflexes next to the possible water opening so that they can save your ball if it does find its way into the water.

You will also get to climb up and over waterfalls, cross bridges and steams and you'll even get to board an old pirate ship, where you golf right on its deck.

Keep in mind that each hole-in-one that you get during your game earns you a chance to win a free game at the end. Employees are also stationed throughout the course to challenge you to get outrageous holes-in-one.

The directions at the top of this page were my first hole-in-one challenge and miraculously I succeeded. Apparently the more ridiculous your shot gets, the better your chances of putting a winning game!

Sarah at Pirates CoveThis course can get crowded but it's definitely worth the wait. Just bring comfortable shoes, something warm to wear and your sense of adventure and you'll be sure to have a great time! Oh yeah... and you might want to spray yourself first with bug spray, as the mosquitoes are sometimes another bit of a biting challenge...

Pirates Cove stays open at night in the summer, so don't rush home from the park midday to make it here. It'll wait for you.

Ready to start having some of your own Bar Harbor family fun at Pirates Cove Miniature Golf Course? Ahoy matey!

Jim has a great stance!
