Prices vary, depending on location, size, amenities, and even the time of the season. There's a motel across the street from our favorite campground, whose prices we've watched go up steadily each time we visit, as it gets closer and closer to the 4th of July!

Why Choose a Motel?

At first glance, it might seem like a no-brainer to stay in a more luxurious hotel rather than one of the large (or small) motels scattered around the island near Acadia National Park. However, not everyone can afford a hotel and some people just would prefer to stay somewhere smaller and less assuming, particularly if they have children.

Personally, I always prefer to camp, but I do realize that not everyone is into the outdoor lifestyle. So, a motel provides comfort and shelter, while not bankrupting you.

What to Look for in a Motel

• Location... How close is it to the park or the town of Bar Harbor?
• Size... How large are the rooms & do they include extras like a desk or comfortable armchair?
• Pricing... is it within your budget and do they offer discounts for special groups, like military or AAA?
• Amenities... Do they offer things like free WIFI, a pool, have a restaurant on the premises or within walking distance, rent bikes, etc.?
• Accessibility... Is the motel at ground level? If not, are there only steps or is there an elevator?
