Bar Harbor Route 66 Restaurant21 Cottage Street, Bar Harbor, Maine 04609 ♦ 207.288.3708 http://www.bhroute66.com/ Photo: Chuck & Theresa MacNaughton This is our "go-to" restaurant in Bar Harbor. Because we camp, we usually do most of our own cooking, but when we do eat out, we always seem to end up back at this quirky restaurant, which used to be called "Freddie's", but Freddie has apparently now retired.Tucked away on Cottage Street, the Route 66 restaurant is fronted with a large car, as you can see by the picture on the left. Inside, it's a veritable museum of kitsch, with every vertical surface covered with metal signs, model trains, and stuff scavenged from old restaurants, churches and other local buildings. The food is great and the staff are always exceedingly friendly. It can get busy, though, so go early or be prepared to wait! Café Milagro37 Cottage St, Bar Harbor, ME 04609 ♦ 207.288.9592 http://www.milagrocoffee.com/This coffeehouse, run by couple from Seattle, sells organic, shade-grown and fair-trade coffees, plus a limited breakfast menu. As one visitor put it, "It's a miracle..." that there is now one decent place on Mount Desert Island to get a great cup of coffee. They also sell mugs, t-shirts, etc. in their gift shop. Have you eaten/drank here or know of another great place for coffee in Bar Harbor? If so, please submit your review below... Café This Way14½ Mt Desert St, Bar Harbor, ME 04609 ♦ 207.288.4483 http://www.cafethisway.com/ At Cafe This Way, meals served in a quirky, living room setting, although this is only true in season. Read a review here Geddy’s19 Main Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609 ♦ 207.288.5077 http://www.geddys.com/ This Bar Harbor institution offers casual fare than includes pizza, sandwiches, seafood, soups and salads. The emphasis at this restaurant is on good food and good fun. Oddly enough, we never dined there on any of our trips to Acadia. But we did always notice it, with the license plates from every state on the outside wall, and being located right across from the town park.
Besides food, they have a gift shop, in case you want to take home any mementos. Prices of entrees range from $7.99 to $25.99. Check out one visitor's review of Geddy's. Check out this review of Poor Boy's Reel Pizza Cinerama33 Kennebec Place, Bar Harbor, ME 04609 ♦ 207-288-3811 http://www.reelpizza.net/We were delighted to find this movie theater on our last visit to Acadia! Talk about fun... it's not just a movie theater... they also offer food. In fact, they serve gourmet pizza (both slices and whole pies) in addition to regular movie food that can be eaten during your movie. Pizza can also be ordered for take-out. Desert Island towns too! Moorings Restaurant131 Shore Ave, Southwest Harbor, ME 04679 ♦ 207.244.7070 http://www.moorings-restaurant.com/This restaurant, which overlooks Southwest Harbor and Somes Sound, is family owned and operated. This authentic source of fresh-caught boiled lobster has been open since 1956, though like most restaurants in the area, it's only open in season. When it's open though, it's open 6 days a week.
