Active Sports

You can do so many outdoor, active sports at Acadia, provided the weather is cooperative. Some can be done all year long (or nearly), while others will be more suited to particular seasons.

Some sports are more strenuous than others. Some are better for families, while others might be considered more extreme. But there's definitely something for everyone.

Hiking is probably the most popular active Acadia sport. Hiking will enable you to see all different parts of Acadia National Park, both the crowded parts and also the "off the beaten track" parts.

Acadia Biking

Biking is another fun outdoor activity families and individuals can do in Acadia National Park and in the surrounding areas on Mount Desert Island.

Whether you like hills or prefer to coast along on the flats, there is a biking trail or path for you. In fact, John D. Rockefeller designed Acadia Park for biking when he conceptualized the carriage roads system. These dirt and gravel roads are one of the best ways to experience Acadia that we know!

There are many other outdoor activities you can partake in too. We've done a couple of them... rock climbing on one glorious day at Otter Cliffs... and canoeing every Acadia vacation at Long Pond.
