Fall to End it All

The Famous Echo Lake in Acadia NP

The Famous Echo Lake in Acadia NP

The Famous Echo Lake in Acadia NP On top of windy Cadillac Mountain

When you were a kid, did you ever race your sibling just because you had to beat them and for no other reason?

Well I did. The competitiveness was flying high once again at Echo Lake in Acadia National Park. It was our second trip to the park and we decided to explore the other side of the island one day. We had arrived at the Echo Lake stop on our tape tour. We had never seen it before and I was excited (and only 10.)

Because I was the younger sister, I wanted to beat my older sister, Sarah, to the lake. I started running towards the edge of the lake at full speed. All of the sudden, I noticed that Sar was gaining on me. I kept running harder... and then the next thing I knew I was on the ground.

Lots of pain and tears followed.

When I fall, I always fall knees first, so I managed to completely scrape up my right knee. I'm talking the whole kneecap was covered in blood and pus and all that fun stuff.

We got it all bandaged up in nearby Northeast Harbor, but the bad part was that it was the second day of our two week trip. I had to hike in pain the rest of the vacation.

Now, a year ago, ten years after the fall, Sar admitted that she pushed me. Even though it was so long ago, I will always bring it up to make her feel bad.

I mean, what are little sisters for? :)
