The North Face Race
Up (and Down) Cadillac Mountain
What would you do to be the first one down the north face of Cadillac mountain?
Well apparently we'd go to great lengths to be the first ones off the mountain. We had very much enjoyed our hike up the north face of Cadillac Mountain. We stopped at the top for a well-deserved reward to feast on fruit popsicles from the gift shop. It was on our way back down the trail when it all happened.
We were leisurely strolling back down the north face of Cadillac Mountain, across the flat rock when a family of three came up behind us. Now, we're pretty loud when we hike, just chatting and having fun so we thought we'd be polite and let the lovely family pass us.
They quickly moved past us, but then a little way down the trail (maybe 15 feet) they had stopped for some reason. Not wanting to stop again, we went past them. However, not 10 minutes later, they were on our tails again.
Again, we let them pass. Basically, it was as if we were now hiking as a group of six instead of a threesome. At some point however, we were neck and neck going down a wide part of the trail. Somehow our leisurely hike turned into a race. The boy in the other family began to move down the remainder of the trail very fast. Sar and I do not like to lose... so we began to fly down the north face trail too.
Eventually Sar and I left the path in pursuit of a faster way to the bottom of the trail. In hindsight, probably was not the best idea. However we found our way down. It just involved a bit of a drop-off. We went for it. Sar sliding down first. Again, not a great idea. Because she had shorts on, she managed to scrape and bruise the entire back of her right thigh. I took a picture that night when we got back to the campground. The injury had a least a four inch diameter.
But the important thing is... that we won! WE WON!!!
