The Birds! in Acadia
Our Own Nature Horror Story on Schoodic Peninsula
One fine summer day on Schoodic Peninsula, we had our own The Birds (in Acadia) horror story...

It was a dark and sort of stormy day the time we decided to drive the 50 or so miles over to the Schoodic Peninsula, the far-off part of Acadia National Park. By the time we got all the way out to Schoodic Point, it was lunchtime, so we decided to eat our lunch on the flat rocks where the surf pounds.
Seemed like a good idea at the time...
Now, it should be noted that everywhere you go on the coast of Maine, you'll see seabirds, especially sea gulls, and they're not shy. We've encountered them on the mountain peaks at Acadia a few times, hopping to within a foot or two of us, hoping for a handout. But they would generally shoo away.
At Schoodic Point, though, there were larger numbers of gulls, and these guys were bold! They were flying over all of the people there (we weren't the only ones) and swooping in close.
All of a sudden, one swooped right in and grabbed a Fig Newton cookie off of Sarah's lunchbag! That sure was a surprise. That was enough of a close encounter for us... especially Sarah, who's not a bird lover anyway.
So, we beat a hasty retreat to our car... which was covered in gulls. We shooed them away to get in, but they came right back. It was like the old Hitchcock movie, The Birds... gulls on the roof, gulls on the hood... they were even knocking on our windshield.
It was surreal... and a little bit scary. We wasted no time in getting out of that parking lot, believe us!
So, that's our tale of The Birds in Acadia... at Schoodic Peninsula.
