Train to Bar Harbor
Travel to Bar Harbor the Old-School Way
Taking a train to Bar Harbor is somewhat of an option, but it won't get you all the way to Acadia...
Bad news... there is no train service to Acadia, or even to nearby Bangor. But we built this page anyway, because we knew people were looking for this type of information and we wanted you at least to get some kind of answer...
The best you can do if you want to travel by train to Acadia National Park is take the Amtrak rail line to Boston and then catch the Downeaster line up to Portland, Maine, which is still a few hours away from Mount Desert Island.
From Portland, you'll have to get a bus to Bangor, where you can catch the Island Express shuttle or a Vermont Transit bus. Not the most direct or fastest route...
Still, if you prefer traveling by train, we guess it can be done. At least sort of.
We recommend you fly or drive, though, if you can. It's the most direct way to get to Acadia National Park!
