Where Is Acadia?

The Answer & How to Get There...

Hundreds of people cruise Google everyday, asking "Where is Acadia?" Are you one of them?

where is acadia
Want to know where Acadia is?

The truth is, Acadia, though popular, is so far off the beaten track that not everyone knows where it is. But, on this page, you'll find the answer to that question as well as information on how to learn more about Bar Harbor bus service, whether there is a Bar Harbor airport, and more.

Our preferred way to get to Acadia is (or was, when we lived in the East) to drive, but many people do arrive via public transportation too.

But before we get into all that, let's make sure we've answered your questions about where Acadia is located.

Acadia National Park is located along the rugged, rocky coast of what is considered "Downeast" Maine.

Here is a map to help orient you (courtesy of the National Park Service). You can click on the map to see a larger version that shows you where is Acadia.

Most of the park is located on Mount Desert (pronounced like dessert, as in ice cream) Island, which is accessible by vehicle via a causeway bridge. The park is approximately six hours north of Boston.

Except for one mainland section called the Schoodic Peninsula, Acadia National Park is located on offshore islands along the coast of Maine, which includes Baker Island, the Cranberry Isles and Isle au Haut, in addition to Mt. Desert Island.

But wait... there's one other piece of information you need to understand exactly where is Acadia... Once you get on the island called Mount Desert, it's another 7 or 8 miles until you actually reach the main entrance to Acadia National Park, and then Bar Harbor is another couple of miles past that.

Distances From Other Cities

If you're traveling from another area of the country, you might be wondering, "Where is Acadia in relation to where I live?" So, we put together this chart of the distances between Acadia and some other eastern cities.
